Based in Romania, CyberGhost is owned by its parent business, UK-based security-services conglomerate Kape Technologies. The service itself has seen enormous growth in recent years and is now strongly entrenched as one of the leading VPN service providers.
It uses solid VPN functions consisting of 7 simultaneous device connections, fairly great speeds, and a fantastic server spread. Boasting an absolutely enormous number of servers, sitting at over 9,000, it dwarfs many of its competitors in this location. In the past, we were impressed with CyberGhost and took the service for another spin to see how it stacks up in an increasingly competitive VPN market.
The CyberGhost Windows app has a user friendly user interface that’s pleasantly easy and uncomplicated. On the left rail you have choices for My Account and Settings. To the right of that you have all of the various server alternatives. These consist of menu items for Favorites, All Servers, For Gaming, For Torrenting, and For Streaming servers.
Many of these server options come from CyberGhost’s rather unique tradition as a VPN that uses servers based on use rather than place. Each server listed in this menu is optimized for a specific service and CyberGhost supports uncloging for more than 35 services.
Under the server menu you’ll discover Privacy settings and Smart guidelines. The first has simply a few basic features such as preventing DNS leaks, an automatic kill switch choice, and a blocker alternative for domains that are known to serve advertisements, trackers, and malware.
While the service does not offer a wide variety of tools for power users, the Smart rules section does use a couple of areas to modify. Here you can set launch guidelines for the app, whitelist specific websites so they bypass the VPN, and also choose if you would like the VPN to automatically link when you open a particular desktop app.
